The silence was uncomfortably awkward and what may have been seconds, felt like forever!
I was paralyzed. I was part of an ensemble performance in college and when it was my turn to speak my lines, my mind went blank. I have an outgoing personality, maybe even ambivert but from that day onward, I restricted my speaking to behind the scenes.
My lack of confidence speaking in public haunted me for years. As a Marketing Director and Senior Designer, I was overlooked for job promotions and I let important business connections dwindle. I had this feeling of being left behind as I watched others succeed.
It wasn’t until years later that I became my first client and signed up for Toastmasters. What followed during the lockdown of 2020, was an invitation for a beta and certification as a public speaking coach using Ultraspeaking games. The experience was pivotal in overcoming my anxiety and knee-knocking panic.
As a coach facilitating cohorts on the fundamentals of speaking, I realized clients were confused on how to use the games in real world scenarios. “The games are fun,” they said, “but how does this work in life?”
That inspired me to create a course with practical frameworks such as the Bullseye Grinder, Dart Method and Presentation Sprint, that bridged the gap with transferable solutions.
Even today, there are days where I struggle to memorize scripts or feel a little anxious when I have to give a speech. Building my own practice using Remarkable Framework system, and the mindset that every opportunity to present is a conversation, I now speak on stages around the world and coach high level executives on how to improve their public speaking. I love recording videos and am a frequent guest on podcasts. I also have a book in the works because of the requests from clients asking me for more.
None of this was my career plan. And here I am, a Keynote Speaker and Corporate Trainer helping others to reach their unrealized potential and achieve success.
Since founding Remarkable Speaking, I have coached hundreds of individuals in over 40 countries across every imaginable industry.
What I learned and will share with you is when you speak remarkably, you are confident talking about your ideas, you speak with intention and have meaningful conversations anywhere, anytime about anything.
